The HAG Futu is the first completely new chair to be introduced by HAG since 2002. The HAG Futu is a chair that’s simple, elegant and incredibly intelligent. Design-wise it is a breath of fresh air in a world full of “me-too” chairs. Behind the clean design there is a revolutionary interior. At the core of the chair, HAG debuts its new inBalance mechanism – a unique technology that allows you to adjust the tilt resistance with extreme ease according to individual needs and the latest ergonomic principles.

Though the HAG Futu carries all the functions available on today’s most advanced chairs, it lacks the clunky, intrustive levers and knobs that disturb the visual expression. It is simple, easy to use and just as well suited to large office landscapes as to individual offices. Incredibly, 97% of the chair is recyclable and 50% of the chair’s components are made from previously recycled materials. Way to go HAG!

The Futu chair is scheduled to be launched in March of 2009. HAG is so excited about its new chair, it has created an entirely new website for its launch:
It stands there with its arms stretched out, almost as if its welcoming you to come over and sit down. One of the many unique things about the Capisco is its saddle-shaped seat. The saddle seat was the result of Opsvik’s research into the working styles of active horsemen. The Capisco’s saddle seat and back allow the sitter unrivaled freedom to move into different, natural sitting positions that are not possible with any other chair. After you’ve tried sitting in the chair, you will understand HAG’s company philosophy – The best sitting position is always the next.

When HAG introduced the Capisco to the world 20 years ago, it was both a bold and risky move. Today we still see it as fresh as it was when it was originally released. The HAG Capisco’s stunning lines and unique functionality have rendered the chair timeless, and we dare say it has become a design icon.

The seat frame of the Capisco is manufactured from recycled car bumpers and plastic household waste. Both the manufacturing process and the raw materials sourced satisfy the highest level of international environmental standards.

Peter Opsvik and his team have partnered with HAG since 1974, and they have been pivotal in developing the ergonomic principles that HAG continues to build its business on today. The Capisco collection has won several prizes for its unique functions and design over the last two decades and continues to make a striking statement with its beauty and relevance today.

Recommended by chiropractors all around the world, the kneeling chair uses the “right angle” approach to seating. The forwardly-slanted seat and supportive knee cushion open the angle of the hips, which provides a more natural posture for the spinal column. The Balans chair’s shape forces the hips more forward, which naturally balances and stabilizes the user. This sitting position greatly reduces the strain on the lumbar portion of the back, improves breathing and increases flexibility.

“Balans” was originally used as a term for the first Norwegian chairs that allowed users to sit in a kneeling posture. Progressive Norwegian thinker Hans Christian Mengshoel conducted the first experiments in the kneeling concept. Three Norwegian designers (Peter Opsvik, Oddvin Rykken, and Svein Gusrud) developed their own solutions based on Mengshoel’s principles. Opsvik emphasized variation and movement in his solution and teamed with HAG to bring the chair to market.

Opsvik’s design used a greater thigh angle to ensure that the user would be most comfortable and not slide off the seat cushion. This configuration facilitated a more natural curve in the lumbar region. To compensate for different user heights and worksurface heights, the HAG Balans chair comes in three different pneumatic lift sizes.

Peter Opsvik also developed the Conventio chair for HAG. Opsvik felt that sitters should be just as comfortable on a chair without casters as on a chair with casters. The natural limitation of the four-legged chair was its inability to move with the user. The HAG Conventio is a light and simple chair that allows users to tilt backwards and forwards.

Original Conventio Chair

Opsvik reteamed with HAG in 2006 to launch the redesigned Conventio Wing chair. The Conventio Wing was a rousing success at the NeoCon International Furniture Exposition in Chicago – winning the Gold award for seating. Both the seat and the back of the Conventio Wing are manufactured from recycled automobile bumpers and plastic household waste bottles. The chair is assembled with very few component elements, making it amazingly easy to disassemble or replace.

Conventio Wing

When you are actively sitting and forcing the malleable Conventio Wing into different angles, the pressure points between your body and the chair surfaces are re-distributed. This results in a profoundly comfortable sitting experience. In addition, the surface of the Conventio Wing’s seat is not smooth. The V-shape in the middle of the backrest alleviates pressure on the user’s spine. Instead, the pressure is distributed to the supporting muscles on the sides of the back. The perforations in the Conventio Wing act as air pockets, ensuring that the user doesn’t “stick” to the chair.

The foam and upholstery are the parts of a chair that are typically the first to show signs of age. The Conventio Wing is made without foam or upholstery enabling a much longer useful life for the chair.

A redesigned Credo debuted in 1992, and the chair has been updated in this century for a more contemporary look. The photo on the left shows the original chair. And the photo to the right shows the current version of the H04 Credo.

Opsvik’s goals for the H04 Credo were threefold:

(1) To develop a chair that was reasonably priced but highly functional. HAG’s original tagline for the Credo’s was “a chair for every position”. This was meant not only for body positions, but for positions within a company. Before the H04/Credo’s launch, only those in certain “positions” in a company were privileged enough to have a chair that was fully functional.

(2) To develop a chair that respected the body’s natural need to move. With its slightly-tilted angle, the H04 Credo allows full movement from the seated posture to a reclined posture. The user can easily balance his body while his feet control the tilt mechanism.

(3) To develop a chair for different-sized users. The original Credo was one of the first chairs to offer different seat and back sizes to accommodate different-sized users. Today, the H04 comes in a low back, medium back, high back and high/wide back version.

The H04 Credo chair has been the best selling office chair in Scandinavia for over 20 years.

Similar to the HAG Credo, the HAG H05 was designed based upon the “balanced movement” mechanism.
If we adjust our desk chair so we can work comfortably in front of us or leaning over our desk, where do we want to put our feet when we lean back to relax? Generally, in front of us, and on a higher level. The HAG Step Up makes this possible. The Step Up actually offers an infinite number of options to place our feet relative to our sitting position. In addition, it easily swings out of the way when its not needed and can just as easily be attached to (or detached from) the base of the chair.
