HAG H04 Credo Chair

11326_credoThe HAG Credo chair was designed by legendary Norwegian Peter Opsvik and launched in 1984. A redesigned Credo debuted in 1992, and the chair has been updated in this century for a more contemporary look. The photo on the left shows the original chair. And the photo to the right shows the current version of the H04 Credo.

hd0b5g_h04_credo_chairOpsvik’s goals for the H04 Credo were threefold:

(1) To develop a chair that was reasonably priced but highly functional. HAG’s original tagline for the Credo’s was “a chair for every position”. This was meant not only for body positions, but for positions within a company. Before the H04/Credo’s launch, only those in certain “positions” in a company were privileged enough to have a chair that was fully functional.

(2) To develop a chair that respected the body’s natural need to move. With its slightly-tilted angle, the H04 Credo allows full movement from the seated posture to a reclined posture. The user can easily balance his body while his feet control the tilt mechanism.

(3) To develop a chair for different-sized users. The original Credo was one of the first chairs to offer different seat and back sizes to accommodate different-sized users. Today, the H04 comes in a low back, medium back, high back and high/wide back version.

The H04 Credo chair has been the best selling office chair in Scandinavia for over 20 years.

Dear sirs,

In our office we have a HAG Chair, Credo Collection, number 1997-04-22, 3200, Dutch norm NEN 1812, of which one of the wheels is broken. Is it possible to have this repaired?

Looking forward to your answer,

yours sincerely,

A. de Hamer

You should contact your local dealer to get a replacement caster. They are very easy to change and reasonably priced as well, compared to other seating manufacturers. The casters simply snap right in and out of the housing.

In our office we hava several HAG Chairs, model 4600 HO4 but without the headrest. Is it possible to buy one and fit it on the chair? If yes, any advise on a local dealer contact details for Greece?

Yours sincerely,
D. Giannidakis

Hi Dimitris,

Backrests can certainly be added to most newer chairs. It really depends on the mechanism used in assembly. If you contact an authorized dealer with your date of manufacture and a model number they should be able to help you determine if your chairs will accept a headrest.

Hi HAG people. I have a HAG Capisco that is about 3 years old and the back squeaks when I lean back or put weight on certain parts of the seat. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything I can do to stop it?

Whoever might be approving these comments, I am going to cut and paste this on the other chair pages so no one misses this question. Please don’t think I am spamming your blog :)

Hello

I own a HAG H05 – nice – have had it for many years now. Unfortunately the wheels are the weak link… I’ve gone through 5 sets now – cheap plastic! I’m amazed HAG uses cheap plastic instead of more stout metal! Anyhow I live in Juneau, Alaska and our HAG dealer has long ago left. Can you provide me a dealer I can contact to order another batch of cheap plastic wheels to go on my incredibly stout but comfortable HAG H05?

Thanks

Paul

hi
I have a hag credo chair about 15 years old but still going strong. however i need a seat cover, is there any source of these ? what would you advise

Phil,

I’m a HAG dealer in Florida, USA. HAG/Izzy no longer offers just covers. If you are interested in purchasing a new seat, you should contact your HAG dealer, who can verify that the current design will work with your model. Seat and back replacements are relatively inexpensive for all HAG chairs. The only other option would be to visit a local upholstery shop to have your chair re-upholstered there.

Hiram,
I’m looking for a Hag dealer in Florida where I can see and feel the chair. Can you tell me where you are located in Florida?

Hi, I have a HAG chair that my father bought and it is perfectly well functioning apart from wheels. It is HAG Balans 5015 and I can’t find the wheels for this type from dealers. Would you have some stocks for this type? FYI I was told that it is not possible to use the wheels of other types. I am looking for the wheels in the UK.
Thanks so much in advance.

I am wondering if someone can tell me the pros and cons of the Hag Credo 04 (with high back) as compared to the Hag Inspiration 09 (9220). Is the Hag Inspiration really a better chair? I am most concerned about lumbar support (I like a lot of it), but want a good all around chair for tasks, typing and reading. I haven’t been able to find a single (real) review of the inspiration chair. So, how does the lower and upper back support compare between the two chairs?

Oh, and to add to my last comment, I am 6′ tall.

I have an H09 Inspiration in my home office and I think it offers exceptional lumbar support from the movable lumbar pad located behind the mesh back. The pad is very generously sized and puts the support right where I need it. The mesh back rest provides support for my upper back and shoulders.

I don’t have as much direct experience with the H04, but I have gotten to use one several times. I really like the chair overall, but my feeling is that it’s better suited for smaller folks. At 6′ tall you might find that it feels a bit small, even with the high back. There isn’t any kind of lumbar “device” like there is with the H09. There is a fairly pronounced lumbar curve in the back rest cushion, but I’m not sure it would provide the level of support that you require.

Otherwise the chairs offer many of the same features like a seat slider, adjustable arms, tilt tension, handy footrests built into the base above each caster and a definite European feel.

As you can tell, I’m a big fan of HAG chairs. I have two at home and one at work.

Regarding chair height, most ergonomic advice states to raise the seat so your thighs are almost parallel to the floor, with hips slightly higher then the knees.

In a credo/H04 chair, does this rule still apply or, due to the rocking mechanism (forward and backward tilt) should the seat be a little bit higher then this typical position so that you can ‘rock’ more easily?

Thanks

The H04 chair rocks with a very fluid motion regardless of seat height. I love my chair!

We have a Hag Credo office chair dating from 1999. Can anyone confirm that the foam seat would be made from fire-retardant materials?

Thanks

@jane mccarten nearly all furniture manufactured is required by law to meet minimal fireproofing standards. there are several different standards that add additional fireproofing but it would be impossible to know if your chair qualified just by looking. there could be a factory label or other signage on the underside of the chair that offers further information. if you are unable to find this you may be able to contact the dealer from where it was purchased for details.
